It is not every time that soldiers from the Nigerian Army get rewarded for their remarkable efforts. And even when they receive such, it is mostly underreported.

Recently, Headquarters 3 Division of the Nigerian Army took the commendable step of presenting electric motorcycles to deserving personnel. The ceremony, presided over by Major General AE Abubakar, GOC and Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN, took place on December 4, 2024, at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment in Jos, Central Nigeria’s Plateau State.

Major General Abubakar noted that the initiative aligns with the Chief of Army Staff's vision of prioritizing troop welfare and sound administration. He emphasized that the program builds on the 2022 precedent set by the former GOC. The GOC also explained that the electric motorcycle distribution reflects the Division's commitment to operational efficiency and environmental sustainability.

These electric motorcycles, with a top speed of 40 kilometers per hour and a 100-kilometer range on a two-hour charge, offer an eco-friendly alternative to traditional vehicles. The initiative will reduce transportation costs for personnel within Maxwell Khobe Cantonment and contribute to Nigeria's environmental goals.

A state-of-the-art charging facility has been established at the Headquarters to power these innovative electric motorcycles. Moreover, the Division has recently been the beneficiary of a series of transformative welfare-enhancing projects initiated by Army Headquarters, including renovations, new constructions, and the provision of critical resources to support personnel in their duties.

The GOC assured that the recognition and reward of excellence has been institutionalized within the Division, with plans to continue the initiative in phases. Soldiers were encouraged to remain committed to excellence, as their hard work and dedication would always be acknowledged. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of keys to the beneficiaries and a group photograph to commemorate the occasion.

Efforts like these celebrate the resilience of men who every day continue to fight for a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
