URNI, FON Mark Milestone as DCLDSP Participants Commence Final Examination

Participants of the first cohort of the Diaspora-Supported Computer Literacy and Digital Skills Programme (DCLDSP) commenced their Computer Based Examination (CBT), marking the successful completion of three months of intensive digital skills training under the initiative.

The examination, held at the URNI DCLDSP Centre in Abuja, was observed by the Co-founder of Friends of Nigeria (FON) Europe, Mr. Abiodun Dominic Odunuga, who visited the centre to assess the progress of participants and encourage them as they complete the final stage of their training.

The DCLDSP, an initiative of URNI in collaboration with Friends of Nigeria (FON) Europe, was established to equip 1,000 young Nigerians with computer literacy and digital skills to succeed in a digital economy. The first cohort comprises 27 participants drawn from different communities, all of whom commenced training in April.

Over the course of the programme, participants received practical instruction in Graphic Design and Branding, Software Development, and Data Analysis. They also had leadership and personal development sessions throughout the training.

Speaking during the inspection visit, Mr. Abiodun commended the commitment and remarkable progress demonstrated by the participants over the past three months. He noted that the programme represents a strategic investment in Nigerian youths and reaffirmed the commitment of Friends of Nigeria (FON) Europe to supporting initiatives that equip Nigerian youths with relevant digital skills.

He encouraged the participants to view the examination as more than an academic assessment, urging them to seize every opportunity to learn, continue developing their skills, and remain focused on building meaningful careers in the digital economy.

Mr. Abiodun also highlighted the significance of the partnership between URNI and Friends of Nigeria (FON) Europe, noting that the organisation had provided laptops and other learning resources to support the training. According to him, empowering young Nigerians with digital skills creates opportunities for them to compete globally without necessarily leaving the country, while contributing to national development through innovation and technology.

He further emphasized that the future economy will increasingly be driven by technology and innovation, making digital skills essential for young people seeking sustainable careers. He encouraged the participants to take ownership of their future, reminding them that determination, discipline, and continuous learning remain the keys to long-term success.

The Computer Based Examination assessed participants on the knowledge and practical competencies acquired throughout the programme. Successful participants will receive certificates upon completion and proceed to the internship phase, where they will gain practical industry experience to complement their classroom training.

The Diaspora-Supported Computer Literacy and Digital Skills Programme continues to demonstrate the impact of strategic collaboration in youth development by equipping young Nigerians with the skills needed to thrive in the digital economy and contribute meaningfully to national transformation.
