The Nigerian Army has recently recorded a significant victory against terrorism as it successfully neutralized a top terrorist commander and eliminated 31 of his fighters during a recent military operation in the northwestern region of the country.

The Defense Headquarters (DHQ) announced on Wednesday this week that Aminu Kanawa, the second-in-command to notorious terrorist leader Bello Turji, was killed alongside his men during Operation Fansan Yamma. The operation also resulted in injuries to several of Turji's close associates, including his younger brother.

This decisive action follows a series of successful military operations against Turji's forces, including the killing of his son during a previous engagement where Turji himself was forced to abandon his son and flee the battlefield.

Bello Turji, a notorious figure known for his brutal attacks on civilians and security forces in Zamfara and Sokoto states, has been a major threat to peace and security in the region. His terror group has been responsible for numerous massacres, including the tragic loss of over 200 lives in Zamfara State in 2022.

The Nigerian government has acknowledged the severity of the security situation in the northwest, with the National Bureau of Statistics reporting a staggering toll of nearly 615,000 lives lost to insecurity-related attacks between May 2023 and April 2024, with the northwest region bearing the brunt of these losses

The Nigerian Army despite facing challenges, it has been relently pursuing terrorist groups across the country and at the same time showing a commitment to protecting the lives and livelihoods of innocent citizens. With these successful operations, locals in Nigeria's northwest will find even more courage to live peacefully.

Moreover, this latest victory against the terrorist group of Turji is a step forward in the ongoing fight to restore peace and security to the region. The Nigerian Army said that it will remain committed to its mission to protect the nation and will continue to employ all necessary measures to dismantle terrorist networks and bring perpetrators of violence to justice.

While it's not every day that successes of the Nigerian Army are reported, for URNI we believe that this is a feat that every patriotic Nigerian should be happy about.
